About the Data Storage Converter
Digital data is stored and transmitted in bits and bytes. One byte equals 8 bits. The prefix meanings differ between the decimal SI system (1 KB = 1,000 bytes) and the binary system used by operating systems (1 KiB = 1,024 bytes). Our converter uses the binary (powers of 2) definition consistent with how operating systems report file and drive sizes.
