About the Mass Flow Rate Converter
Mass flow rate measures how much mass passes a point per unit time, regardless of volume. It is preferred over volumetric flow rate in combustion engineering, gas turbines, and chemical processes where fluid density varies with temperature and pressure. The SI unit is kilograms per second (kg/s).
Quick facts
- ›The Space Shuttle Main Engine consumed propellant at about 500 kg/s at full thrust
- ›A typical gas turbine engine uses 50–200 kg/s of air at cruise conditions
- ›Industrial steam boilers are rated in tonnes per hour (t/h)
- ›Human blood flow through the aorta is roughly 5 kg/min at rest
Common uses: Aerospace propulsion, chemical engineering, combustion, steam systems, food processing
